1st Grade - 3rd Grade 2 hours 4th Grade - 6th Grade 3.5 - 4 hours 7th Grade - 8th Grade 4.5 - 5 hours Chunk the time up. 4-6 year olds should be able to stay focused on a task between 2 and 5 minutes times age. For example: child's age x focus time = time on task. 4 x 3 = 12 2nd Grade thru 8th grade should spend between 7 and 10 minutes per grade level on a task. Early Readers (K-2): Listen to read alouds and read independently. (Select a story you want to read. Read it out-loud everyday to someone just like we did at regular school.) Transitional Readers (2-4): Listen to read alouds and read independently Independent Readers (3-6): Listen to audio books/read alouds and read independently Fluent Readers: (5-8): Listen to audio books and read independently at grade level
Limited Elementary Level 2 (2-4): Write your name and address. Create sentences using sight words. Write short paragraphs. Practice writing spelling words. General Elementary Level 3 (4-5): Write friendly letters. Write paragraphs and short stories. Practice writing Proficient Elementary Level 4 (6-8): Write friendly and business letters. Online Learning Begins!
Education is fluid. It is always changing to meet the needs of students, assessments, and our ever changing society. Right now, schools are gearing up for online learning while we continue to exercise social distancing in our effort to slow and stop the spread of the Coronavirus.
